Canoe Camp on Birch Lake
Birch Lake lies just outside of the BWCA, which makes it an ideal “second option” for families with small children that want to take advantage of the Family Super Saver Complete and wilderness camping trip with no portages. Twenty miles of wilderness shoreline on this Ely, Minnesota lake with 90% of it being undeveloped federal land. So private and no portages to make — a bonus for the family with young children who “can’t carry their own pack”
No permit/user fees required to camp overnight on Birch Lake.
Canoe Camp in the Boundary Waters

When planning your family canoe trip using the Family Super Saver Compete package the adjacent River Point Resort amenities and outdoor activities are available for your family to enjoy FREE of charge before and after your canoe trip.
River Point has two natural sand beaches with complimentary one and two-person kayaks and paddle boats to have a blast with at the beaches. There is also a swim-to raft and an Aqua Jump Swim Raft. So much for the family to do before the Boundary Waters canoe trip adventure.
Need some paddling help?
Staff is happy to assist in learning some basic paddling tips and techniques when offering special instructional canoeing classes for the family prior to the canoe trip. Right at River Point’s convenient marina with plenty of free paddles, life jackets and canoes to try out, it’s a great opportunity, and it’s fun.
